Scottish Arts & Heritage
St. Andrew's Societies were originally Organized during the period of
Scottish Immigration in the 19th century in order to assist needy Scots settling
in their new
Country. The Oldest of these Societies, established on
November 19, 1756, is in New York City.

Though the Society is named after the Patron Saint of Scotland,
St. Andrew's Societies are not religious Organizations,
Nor are they Affiliated with any religion.

The St. Andrew's Society of New Hampshire was formed on May 9, 1983
as a
Result of an Interest generated by the New Hampshire Highland Games,
and is a 501(c)(3)
Nonprofit, Charitable organization.
Primary Purposes
To preserve Scottish Traditions
To provide Educational Programs and Opportunities for
Members and the General Public
To provide Scholarships for Students pursuing Scottish
Performing and Cultural Arts
To provide Charitable Assistance for Emergency Needs
Newsletter
The Thistle & Lilac is published four times a year and contains News of
Scottish Happenings throughout New Hampshire & New England,
including
Information on Events and Topics of interest to its Members.

Members are Encouraged to submit material for Publication.  These can be Recipes, Anecdotes, Travel Experiences,
Historical or Autobiographical Items,
as well as
Reports of Events Attended or
Personal Achievements and Events.
Current Issue of The Thistle & Lilac
will soon be available.
Scholarships
Each Spring, through the Bertha MacDonald Scholarship Fund,
the
Society awards Scholarship Money to students who are Seeking
to further their
Abilities through study and classes in the Scottish Arts.

The Scholarship Committee reviews Applications from students
of all
Disciplines of the Scottish Arts and
Designates awards based on stated Criteria
and the
Amount of Money available for Distribution.

Money for the Scholarship Fund is raised from Donations, Raffles,
and
Fundraising, plus Patron and Sponsor Membership Dues.
Growth of the Scholarship Fund allows for greater award amounts
and increases the
Numbers of Students that can benefit.

The Society has awarded a Total of well over $37,800 to over 250 recipients
over the past
Twelve Years.  Winners frequently entertain at Society
Events throughout the year, allowing Members to see
How these deserving Folks continue to improve.
Charitable Assistance Fund
The Charitable Assistance Fund has been established to help those whom
Society Members feel are in need because of Catastrophic, Personal or
Financial Hardships.  For Applications, please contact the Society. 

To Donate to the fund, send Contributions to the
SAS Charitable Assistance Trust,
in care of the
St. Andrew's Society.

The Fund is administered by Citizens Bank.
